AFR 01: Discover Best Secrets of South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania and Egypt

Day 1: Johannesburg – Kruger National Park

Our South Africa representative will receive you at O.R Tambo Airport in Johannesburg and assist you connect your flight to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. On arrival, transfer by road to your lodge in Sabi Sands, Kruger.

Day 2-3: Kruger – Mpumalanga Game Reserve

You will explore the wonders of Kruger National Park and Mpumalanga Game Reserve. If you have come to South Africa to see the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros), then Kruger National Park is your perfect choice.

Mpumalanga offers you forests, mountains, rivers, waterfalls and panoramic passes with magnificent scenic views and the opportunity to view wildlife in abundance.

Day 4: Kruger – Johannesburg

Morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge and departure procedures. You will gather your belongings and transferred by the lodge representative to the airstrip for an afternoon scheduled Federal chartered flight to Johannesburg. On arrival at O.R Tambo International Airport you will be met by an Emperor’s Palace representative for a private road transfer to D’Oreale Grande Hotel, a mere 5km from the airport. Overnight in a Deluxe Room on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 5: Johannesburg – Victoria Falls

Breakfast at the hotel followed by departure procedures. You will take the hotel airport shuttle for your South African Airways flight departing R.R Tambo International Airport at 1040hrs to Livingstone arriving at 1230hrs. A representative of Stanley Safari Lodge will pick you at the airport and transfer you to their hotel.

Day 6-7: Victoria Falls

Spend whole day at Victoria Falls. You will have to book and pay directly at the hotels the activities you want to engage in.

Day 8: Victoria Falls – Lusaka

After breakfast, a representative of Stanley Safari Lodge will transfer you to Livingstone Airport to catch Proflight Flight departing1300hrs and arriving at Lusaka Airport at 1410hrs. A representative of Cresta Golfview Hotel will pick you from Lusaka Airport on arrival and transfer you to their hotel on Half Board (Dinner, Bed and Breakfast).

Day 9: Lusaka – Nairobi

After breakfast, a representative of Cresta Golfview Hotel will transfer you to Lusaka Airport to catch your Kenya Airways Flight departing 1005hrs and arriving in Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 1625hrs. Our Kenyan representative will pick you from the airport and transfer you to Holiday Inn Hotel for overnight on bed and breakfast only.

Day 10: Nairobi – Samburu

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive through central Kenya and north across the equator to Samburu National Reserve arriving Samburu Sopa Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drives.

Day 11: Samburu

Full day in Samburu, a beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Morning and afternoon game drives with an optional visit to a local Samburu village.

Day 12: Samburu – Lake Nakuru

Depart Samburu after breakfast and drive to the lower slopes of Mt Kenya. Brief stop at Nyahururu Thompson Falls. Arrive at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp around lunch time. Afternoon game drives in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game.

Day 13: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

Depart Lake Nakuru in the morning and drive further along the floor of the Rift Valley to Maasai Mara Game Reserve, arriving Mara Sopa Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive.

Day 14-15: Masai Mara

Two full days in Maasai Mara, Kenya’s most popular game sanctuary where you will have the best opportunity of spotting the Big Five (lion,leopard,buffalo, rhino and elephant). Morning and afternoon game drives with an optional visit to a local Maasai village.

Day 16: Masai Mara – Serengeti National Park

Depart Masai mara to Serengeti through Isebania border carrying picnic lunch. Our Tanzania representative will receive you at the border and proceed to Serengeti National Park with en route game drives.

Day 17: Serengeti National Park

Full day in Serengeti. Morning and afternoon game drives in the rolling grasslands studded with wildlife for as far as the eye can se.

Day 18: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

Morning games drives at Serengeti and then depart to Ngorongoro via Olduvai Gorge for a brief visit of the museum.
Afternoon descend the Ngorongoro Crater for a half day game drive.

Day 19: Ngorongoro – Kilimanjaro

Depart Ngorongoro after breakfast. Lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge and thereafter transfer to Kia Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 20: Kilimanjaro – Nairobi – Cairo

After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your Kenya Airways/Precision Air Flight to Nairobi scheduled to depart at JRO at 0910hrs. The flight arrive Nairobi at 1000hrs. Our Kenya representative will pick you from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and take you for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. We’ll take you back to the airport after lunch to connect with your Kenya Airways Flight departing Nairobi at 1720hrs.

Our Egyptian representative will receive you at Cairo International Airport on arrival at 2235hrs and transfer you to your hotel. You’ll be briefed on your Egypt tour before you retire to bed.

Day 21: Tour to Pyramids and Sphinx

After breakfast we have a short pre-tour briefing before we take you on a tour of Gisa and Saqqara. From here we take you to Saqqara, which lies 25km to the south of Cairo. Djeser’s (Zoser’s) Step Pyramid (built 4700 years ago) dominates the skyline and is believed to have been the ancient Egyptians’ first attempt at Pyramid building.

The entire 7km stretch of desert at Saqqara is a treasure trove of pyramids, temples and tombs, which we will have plenty of time to explore, while we learn about the history of pyramid building in Egypt. From here we head back to the hotel where you will have a free evening and a chance to try one of the city’s many excellent restaurants.

Day 22: Cairo City Tour

After breakfast we check out of the hotel and take you on a tour of Cairo. Your tour includes a visit to the Egyptian Museum (which houses a vast collection of artefacts from Egypt’s past, including the famous King Tutunkhamun display). At the end of Cairo tour, we transfer you to the train station for an overnight sleeper train journey to Luxor (approx. 2000hrs – 0515hrs).

Day 23: Luxor – West Bank Tour – Board Cruise Boat

You arrive very early this morning in Luxor. The town of Luxor is built on and around the ancient site of Thebes, and boasts the largest concentration of ancient ruins in the Nile Valley. To the West of the Nile lies the City of the Dead, with its mortuary temples and rock-hewn tombs, whilst to the east lay the Temples of Luxor and Karnak.

As your cabins will not be available on the cruise boat until lunchtime, we take an early morning tour to the West Bank of the Nile, starting with the Valley of the Kings.
Finally you will stop to see the Colossi of Memnon, two huge 50 feet high statues of King Amenhotep II, before returning to board the cruise boat to check-in and have lunch. The afternoon is free for you to relax or explore Luxor.

Day 24: Luxor, East Bank Tour – Cruise to Esna/Edfu

(An option is available to do an early morning hot-air balloon flight over the west bank of the Nile.) After breakfast on the boat, take you on a tour of the East Bank of Luxor. The tour will include a visit to the Temple of Luxor, and the huge temple complex at Karnak.
We leave Luxor this afternoon and sail to Esna, where there is a lock on the Nile at which we may need to wait a little as there are many boats passing up and down the river.

Day 25: Nile Cruise – Edfu & Komombo Temples

Our first tour today is to the temple at Esna. Esna was originally the site of a major temple to the god Khnum. It was later used for both Roman and Greek temples, and it is only these later structures that are visible today. Only the hypostyle hall has been excavated and other buildings from the original temple remain buried under the modern town.

Leaving Esna, we sail upriver and stop at Edfu Temple, a well-preserved complex dedicated to the God Horus. We end the day a little further south, moored outside the temple of Komombo where there are the remains of a temple dedicated to the Gods Sobek and Haroeris.

Day 26: Aswan – Philae Temple & Aswan Dam

We arrive this morning in Aswan, which is Egypt’s most southerly city and throughout history has controlled the trade routes both to the north and the south, and has acted as a gateway to and from Africa. Situated on the banks of the Nile it now lies at the northern end of Lake Nasser.

Your afternoon consists of a tour to the Temple of Philae, a complex dedicated to Isis and reclaimed from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, which we reach by boat. We may also stop to visit the Aswan Dam.

Day 27: Aswan – Island Felucca Trip

The morning is free for you to explore the town at your leisure or visit the Nubian Museum. After a lunch stop at a restaurant in Aswan, we take you on a tour of the islands around Aswan on a traditional Egyptian felucca sailboat, stopping at Kitchener Island, with its beautiful and peaceful botanical gardens.
In the evening, we transfer you to the train station for the overnight sleeper train to Cairo (approx. 1830hrs – 0645hrs).

Day 28: Cairo – Depart Home

You arrive in Cairo early this morning, and transfer straight to Oasis Hotel (you may need to wait a short while before your day-use room is available). Have a free morning. Transfer to Cairo International Airport after lunch to take your international flight home.
