Each African country offers a unique experience. Generally the safari hotspots are Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia and Zimbabwe in southern Africa (just to name a few) – and they all offer unique safari holiday experiences.
The wildlife and scenery varies significantly across each country. The large open grasslands of Kenya and Tanzania’s wildlife areas boast huge herds of zebra, wildebeest and predators including lion and cheetah.
Both countries are famous for the wildebeest and zebra migration – the annual procession of over 1.5 million wildebeest – which makes these countries a must-visit for many safari-goers.
- Kenya and Tanzaniaare where enthusiasts go to see the spectacular wildebeest migration mostly taking place between July and October from Serengeti to Masai Mara.
- South Africa is home to the most well-known safari destination in the world: Kruger National Park.
- Namibia is known for pristine deserts, sand dunes, and unique wildlife.
- Rwanda and Ugandaare best known for mountain gorillas.
- Zambia and Zimbabwe offers safaris and Victoria Falls.
- Then, there’s Botswana. It’s a well-known safari destination due to Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta.
The experience is all about untouched wilderness, luxury camps and lodges, incredible wildlife, and fewer crowds. Also, Botswana has almost double the number of elephants of any other country in the world – around 140,000. It’s where you go on safari if you are “in the know.”
