Ken 21: 13 Nights/14 Days Kenya Family Holiday

Kenya family safari holiday: This Kenya safari is specially designed for families or parents travelling with children. Our trip includes activities for the whole family, i.e. game drives, balloon flight in Masai Mara, walks, tribal cultural shows and adventure. .Accommodation is offered in selected safari lodges that are friendly to children.

This Kenya wildlife safari takes you to Sweetwaters in Mt Kenya Aberdares, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara and Lake Naivasha. While in Nairobi, we’ll take you The Sheldrick Farm, the home for endangered elephants and rhinos; to the Bomas of Kenya to expose you to Kenya’s rich cultural diversity and to the Giraffe Center where the children will have a personal interaction with giraffes and feed baby giraffes. Afterwards, fly to the Kenyan coast for a beach holiday at the Leopard Beach Resort and Spa in Ukunda, South Coast.

Day 1: Nairobi

Our Kenyan representative will receive your family at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi and transfer you to Panafric Hotel where accommodation is on bed and breakfast.

Day 2: Nairobi – Sweetwaters

Depart Nairobi and for Ol Pejeta Conservancy located in Mt Kenya region. Lunch at Sweetwaters Tented Camp. You can do day and night game drives around the private conservancy, which is home for the members of the “Big Five" (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard). The conservancy has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan national park and is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya. At the forefront of the Kenyan conservancy programme, the conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, hosts the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.

Day 3: Mt Kenya – Aberdares

After breakfast, depart for Aberdares National Park. Arrive at Outspan Hotel in Nyeri for the 1330hrs transfer to Treetops Lodge. The Treetops Lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick which attracts a host of awesome wildlife at night and tourists view the wildlife from the balcony of their rooms or lodge verandah.

Day 4: Aberdare – Lake Nakuru

A representative of Treetops Lodge will transfer you back to Outspan Hotel where you’ll have your breakfast and reconnect with your driver/guide and depart for Lake Nakuru with a brief stop at Nyahururu Thompson Falls. Then proceed to Lake Nakuru. Lunch at Flamingo Tented Hill Camp. Afternoon game drives in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

After breakfast depart for Maasai Mara arriving in time for lunch at Mara Serena Safari Lodge. Masai Mara Game Reserve has a high concentration of wildlife and outstanding scenic views. Afternoon game viewing drives till sun set.

Day 6: Masai Mara

Morning balloon flight. A representative of Balloon Safaris Ltd will pick you from your lodge and take you for a balloon flight and bring you back. Link up with your driver/guide and continue with your itinerary). Spend the whole day in the Masai Mara plains doing game drives and on the look out for herds of wildebeests crossing the crocodile-infested Mara River.

Day 7: Masai Mara

Another full day of game drives in Masai Mara plains and on the look out for herds of wildebeests crossing the crocodile-infested Mara River. Optional evening visit to a Masai Manyatta Village to learn the dance and culture of the Masai tribe. (You’ll pay USD35 per person per visit directly to the village)

Day 8: Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha. Naivasha is one of the gems in a necklace of Rift Valley lakes, has a variety of bird life and hippo colonies. Lunch at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort and afternoon visit to Hell’s Gate Park. Activities include hiking, rock climbing, spectacular gorge walks, bird watching and wildlife viewing. Sunset boat ride at Lake Naivasha (you’ll pay this directly to boat owners depending on the rides you take). The lodge charges $30 per person for boat ride per hour.

Day 9: Lake Naivasha – Nairobi

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi via the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Stop at the Rift Valley View Point to view the escapement and the Mount Longonot in the background and photographing. Continue with your journey to Nairobi.

1100-1200hrs: Sheldrick Farm
Tour The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Karen, Nairobi. Visitors are allowed to visit the farm between 1100hrs and 1200hrs when elephants and rhinos return from the forest for their milk feed and mud-bath for an hour. The animals return to the forest at 1200hrs. The Trust is named after the late David Sheldrick, a famous Naturalist and founder Warden of Kenya’s giant Tsavo East National Park in which he served from 1948 until 1976. The Trust is famous for saving and conserving orphaned rhinos and elephants, which faced extinction.

1230hrs-1400hrs: Lunch at New Rangers Restaurant Complementary lunch at New Rangers Restaurant. The restaurant is located at the Nairobi National Park main gate. The restaurant’s Twiga Terrance offers a perfect view of wild animals grazing and drinking water at Kisima water hole just 10 metres away as you enjoy your lunch.

1400hrs-1545hrs: Bomas of Kenya After lunch, you depart for Bomas of Kenya, a tourist village in Lang’ata suburb, about 12 kms from Nairobi’s capital city. Bomas (meaning homesteads) displays traditional villages belonging to the several Kenyan tribes, aimed at promoting Kenya’s rich cultural diversity of her 42 tribes. You’ll tour traditional villages for a series of tribal cultural shows entertainment.

1600hrs-1730hrs: Giraffe Center Afterwards, depart for the Giraffe Center located near Hardy Shopping Centre in Nairobi’s Lang’ata suburb. The visit gives you and the children a completely up close and personal interaction with giraffes and you will be allowed to feed them. It’s fun for all who visit the Giraffe Centre. You feed giraffes by hand, take a guided nature walk and see a bull in the wild if you’re lucky, learn about the different types of giraffes. This will definitely be unique adventure experience for your family.

1730hrs: Giraffe Centre-Panafric Hotel: Transfer to Panafric Hotel for evening rest and overnight. Accommodation at Panafric will be on bed and breakfast. The hotel has a restaurant where you can buy dinner (at your own cost).

Day 10: Nairobi – Mombasa

Our driver/guide will transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your take your 0800hrs Kenya Airways Flight No. KQ 602 to Moi International Airport, Mombasa, arriving at 0900hrs. A representative from Leopard Beach Resort and Spa will pick you from the airport and transfer you to their hotel in Ukunda, in Mombasa’s South Coast. Accommodation will be in a superior room facing the ocean on half board (breakfast and dinner).

Day 11-13: Mombasa

Spend whole day in the beaches on your own.

Day 14: Mombasa – Nairobi – Depart Home

Check out time is 1000hrs. After lunch (at your own cost), a representative from Leopard Beach Resort and Spa will transfer you to Moi International Airport, Mombasa, to catch the 1630hrs Kenya Airways Flight No. 611 to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, arriving at 1740hrs. You will then connect your evening flight home.
