KT 02: 11 Nights/12 Days Kenya & Tanzania Safari

This Kenya Tanzania safari takes you to Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Amboseli, Tsavo West and Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary for wildlife safari and wildebeest migration safari. It combines Kenya safari and Tanzania safari top tourist game parks and attractions.

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Nakuru

Our Kenyan representative will receive you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After safari briefing, start your Kenya Tanzania safari by driving to Lake Nakuru, with a stop over at the view point of the Great Rift Valley for photographing. Lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Camp. Afternoon game drives in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru for Masai Mara Game Reserve through the floor of the Great Rift Valley, passing by Lake Naivasha, the only freshwater lake in the Rift Valley. Arrive at Fairmont Mara Safari Club in time for lunch. After lunch, set off for afternoon game drives in search of the big five and most spectacled birds of the open plains and more easily seen in the Mara than elsewhere in Kenya.  Birds of prey are abundant and no less than 53 different species have so far been discovered, secretary birds are a common sight as they stalk sedately over the grasslands, and in the sky there are always vultures and that effortless flier the Bateleur.

Masai Mara is the northern portion of the Great Plains ecosystem in the neighboring Tanzania called Serengeti. It is a home to the “big five” lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard and elephant as well cheetah, zebra, giraffe and vast herds of wildebeest, plain antelope and numerous and other African wildlife.

Day 3: Masai Mara

Spend the whole day in the Masai Mara plains doing game drives in the look out for the Big Five. After lunch, relax and perhaps take a dip in the pool. Afterwards, depart for afternoon game drives till sunset. As sun starts to edge dip into the horizon it will be perfect time to photograph the beautiful Mara rolling plains. Don’t forget this is the right time to spot the shy leopard.

Day 4: Masai Mara – Serengeti

After breakfast, check out with packed lunch and depart for Serengeti via Isabenia border. After being helped in the immigration desk, you will be handed over to our Tanzanian driver/guide and proceed to Serengeti National Park. Game drives en route Kirawira Luxury Serengeti Tented Camp, situated on a hilltop overlooking the vast plains of the western edge of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp is close to the Grumeti River, famed for its giant crocodiles, and the surrounding vegetation is home to a wide variety of game including the Big Five. If you are there between July and October, you may witness the impressive annual wildebeest migration.

Day 5: Serengeti

Full day game drives in Serengeti. Serengeti National Park, undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world is a large national park in Serengeti area, Tanzania. It is most famous due to annual migration of over one million white bearded wildebeest and 200,000 zebra to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve in search of pasture.

Day 6: Serengeti – Ngorongoro

After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge archaeological site, carrying picnic lunches from Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for game drives. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. Return to the lodge in the evening for overnight.

Day 7: Ngorongoro – Lake Manyara

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The park is famous due to its rare tree-climbing lions and birdlife. Upon arrival at Lake Manyara, you’ll have lunch at Kirurumu Tented Lodge and then set off for game drives. Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large waterbirds such as pelicans, cormorants and storks. Large buffalo, wildebeest and zebra herds congregate on these grassy plains, as do giraffes – some so dark in coloration that they appear to be black from a distance.

Day 8: Lake Manyara – Arusha – Amboseli

After breakfast, drive to Arusha where you’ll collect lunch boxes from Impala Hotel and then transfer to Tanzania-Kenya border. After being helped with immigration formalities at the Namanga border point, you’ll be handed over to our Kenya/driver guide and drive to Amboseli National Park.

Beautifully situated beneath the foot of Africa’s highest mountain Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895m), Amboseli National Park is well renowned for its huge herds of elephants and various types of other Savannah wildlife such as Giraffes, Bushbuck’s, Kudu, Warthog’s, Zebra’s and over 425 species of birds recorded here. The snowcapped peak of Kilimanjaro rising above white clouds dominates every aspect of Amboseli and forms a backdrop to an impressive display of wildlife attracted to this location by swamps and springs fed by underground rivers from Kilimanjaro melting snow. Amboseli was the location around which such famous writers like Sir Ernest Hemingway and Robert Ruark tailored their stories of big game hunting in the wilds of Africa. Enjoy a game drive en-route, as you arrive in time for dinner.

Day 9: Amboseli National Park

A dawn game drive will be the perfect time for photographing the humbling and magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro the highest peak in Africa. You return to the lodge for breakfast and some R&R “rest and relaxation”, sunbathing, swimming or for those of you reading enthusiasts, you can read the day away in the well-stocked library with a relaxing view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After lunch, set out for afternoon game drives till sunset.

Day 10: Amboseli – Tsavo West

After breakfast, depart Amboseli through the Shaitani lava plateau to the legendary land of the “Man-Eaters” – Tsavo National Park. Enjoy your lunch at your lodge before another exciting game drive in the park. The 21,000 sq km park is one of the largest in the whole world. This wilderness is home too over 1000 plant species, 400 bird species and more than 60 major mammal species such as lions, huge herds of buffalo, the solitary and ill-tempered Rhino and at least 7000 elephants.

The park is the location of Africa’s most famous adventure story “Man eaters of Tsavo”, in which two lions where responsible for eating over 500 workers who where building the Uganda railway also known as the “Lunatic Line ” by it’s opponents in the British Parliament in 1898. The story was made famous in the 1996 movie “The Ghost and the Darkness.”

Day 11: Tsavo West – Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. Arrive at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge, located in the heart of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary off Voi town, before lunch. All rooms overlook a waterhole and are linked by suspended walkways.  The Sanctuary is a success story in sustainable conservation where wildlife – including elephant, lion, buffalo and giraffe – thrive.

Game drives are tightly controlled to ensure that animals are not harassed and some areas are completely closed to vehicles. This commitment to responsible ecotourism, which has been so well supported by visitors, ensures that the Sanctuary and all its wildlife will continue to prosper. At night, the waterhole is floodlit ensuring that guests enjoy an uninterrupted view of the daily procession of thirsty wildlife that comes to water at the waterhole.

Day 12: Taita Hills – Nairobi – Depart Home

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi and drop off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
