Below are answers to frequently asked questions to help your plan well for your Africa safari, whether on a family holiday or honeymoon safari in Africa.

Each African country offers a unique experience. Generally the safari hotspots are Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia and Zimbabwe in southern Africa (just to name a few) - and they all offer unique safari holiday experiences. The wildlife and scenery varies significantly across each country. The large open grasslands of Kenya and Tanzania’s wildlife areas boast huge herds of zebra, wildebeest and predators including lion and cheetah. Both countries are famous for the wildebeest and zebra migration – the annual procession of over 1.5 million wildebeest – which makes these countries a must-visit for many safari-goers.

The experience is all about untouched wilderness, luxury camps and lodges, incredible wildlife, and fewer crowds. Also, Botswana has almost double the number of elephants of any other country in the world - around 140,000. It’s where you go on safari if you are “in the know.”

For East Africa, the dry season is generally from July through October, while in Southern Africa it is a little longer: April through October. Please keep in mind that these are the peak seasons, so it is essential that you book well in advance during these months.

More than 1.5 million wildebeest migrate in an enormous loop every year between Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya Masai Mara.

The Great Wildebeest Migration in Africa – also known as the Gnu Migration, Serengeti Migration and Masai Mara Migration – is one of the last mass terrestrial wildlife movements left on the planet. It’s the chief reason why so many travellers venture to Kenya and Tanzania for a Migration safari, mostly mid-year between July and October.

When a client asks us this question, Adventure African Jungle Ltd recommends up to 3 to 4 months for low season (April-June and November), 9 months for shoulder/high season (Jan-March) and at least 1 year for the peak season (July-October and December). During the peak season in your destination, you’ll often find that the more exclusive luxury lodges are in high demand and have limited accommodation options, so you will want to book well in advance for your clients to avoid disappointment. For bucket list safaris that are month dependent, like the Great Wildebeest Migration in either Kenya or Zanzibar we recommend you book more than 12 months in advance. However, it is important to let our clients know that it is never too early to start the conversation and get plans in motion to make their travel dreams a reality. Sometimes the most unforgettable trips are the ones that happen at the spur of the moment – depending on flights of course.

Of course, we’re happy to custom design an entirely wildlife safari  specific to your family’s interests, ages and timeline – whether that includes a private pool for fun-filled splashes, playing soccer in a village, dancing with Maasai or sleeping under canvas beneath the stars, our safaris can usually be tailored to accommodate any age. Depending on which country you wish to visit, arrangements and facilities can vary and some camps have age restrictions for young children, but many do not.
In Uganda you can trek to see the gorillas in The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. In Rwanda the montane rainforest of the famous Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park) is where you will find these highly endangered primates.
The price of a single permit varies between destinations. In Uganda, the price for a permit currently sits at USD $700 per person. In Rwanda the price for a single gorilla permit is currently USD $1500. For further information on gorilla permits and visiting the gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda.
There is a safari priced for just about everybody, but there are major differences in accommodations, services, transportation and food. It’s important that you consider how much “roughing’ it” you’re willing to do before you plan your safari. If you are interested in a custom tour for you and your family, this will also affect the price tag. Generally speaking, you would spend $300 US Dollars to $900 US Dollars per person, per day range. You might stay in luxury Camps and Lodges, have full service camping and some domestic flight time. If you can pay between $900 and $2500 per person per day, you can stay in small, remote, five-star lodges and luxury plus camps and travel more by plane (it’s less tiring and offers spectacular views!). Other factors that up the price are exotic modes of travel, such as by hot air balloon and special cultural experiences such as visiting a bush home, will be more expensive. Don’t forget airfare to Africa, which isn’t necessarily included in your safari package. The cost varies substantially depending on a number of factors including: the time of year you visit, the standard of accommodation you wish to stay in, how long you intend to travel for and how often you are traveling from place to place. In general, a safari is not cheap. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people, and it is priced accordingly. The cost of your can also vary greatly, depending on its location, when you go on safari (low season, shoulder season, or high season), how luxurious it is, and how long you go on safari.
  • A low-end African safari starts at around $300 a night per person.
  • A mid-level African safari costs around $600 – $800 a night per person.
  • A high-end African safari costs $1,000 – $1,300 a night per person.
  • An ultra-luxury African safari can cost more than $2,000 a night per person.
These prices typically do not include the cost of your international flights.

The hunters considered killing the Big Five an achievement and brought them home as trophies. So over the centuries, the name stuck. Africa welcomes visitors from all over the world and their diverse diet preferences. These preferences may be due to religious beliefs, lifestyles, or health concerns. The menus in all safari lodges & tented camps are continental cuisine. However, for vegetarian, kosher, halal, gluten-free, etc. meals are also provided. We request you indicate your special diet needs during safari booking/confirmation.
As part of our safari tour services,  Adventure African Jungle ltd provides free pickup and return to the airport/hotel for any guests who are booked for a safari holiday with us. The transfers are provided even if you arrive or depart several days before or after your safari start/end or at night. Please let us know your arrival & departure flight details including airline codes and arrival/departure times. We will provide you with the name of your driver and telephone contacts in advance of your arrival/departure.
Adventure African Jungle Ltd does not include international flight costs in any of our Africa safari holidays.   This is because we’re an inbound local Kenya tour operator and ground handling agency.   However, we book all your intra-Africa flights.

If you book your safari 12 months before arrival or in a group of more than six persons, we give you a 2% discount from the total cost of the trip. We appreciate our guests’ special life moments such as anniversaries, birthdays, and special events. Whether you are holidaying as honeymooners or a family traveling with kids, we are happy to extend a discount or offer other extras to enhance your holiday safari experience. Please let us know about any events, special occasions, etc. happening during your safari tour when you make your booking. We provide honeymooners sand children with special gifts.
We wholeheartedly recommend that our guests have a policy that covers their trip, as travel insurance offers major advantages. Please purchase travel insurance from your insurance company from your home country.
Every African country has its own set of visa and passport requirements. The official embassy website of the respective country will provide you with information as well as the process of application. Basic visa and passport requirements for entering African countries:
  • A passport with at least six months validity. The passport should have at least 2 blank pages.
  • People who travel FROM yellow fever-infected countries such as Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya need to provide yellow fever vaccination certificates.
  • Visas are often mandatory for all travellers with a few exemptions – check with the official embassy.
  • In some African countries, visitors can get their visas on arrival, either at the airport or the border entry posts. Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia are some African countries that provide visas on arrival. In 2021, Kenya declared that it wouldn’t be issuing visas on arrivals so there are now two advance options, applying online or at the Kenyan embassy. Other countries, for example Tanzania, also have efficient online visa application schemes.
